I have been lucky enough to explore parts of the coast of British Columbia and Alaska by float plane. We fly low enough to appreciate the details of the cliffs, islands and forests, visiting places with our eyes that we could never dream of visiting with our feet. In fact, we fly at eagle height. We can, for a time, be an eagle scanning the land below. However, our eyes don't compare to those of an eagle for sharpness. But, for a short time, I feel privileged to be given eagle wings, if only in my imagination. - RB

One element echoes through all Darrell Bush's work: The luminous presence of light. It sets the mood, warms the heart, calms the soul. Born in East Moline, Illinois, Darrell enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family as a child so he's experienced the warm glow of the perfect Midwestern sunrise and seen the rays as they dance of the lake and shore at sunset. It's all here waiting to please your eye.
Evening Performance is of a cabin sitting with beautiful light show up above it. The colours used by the artist are beautiful as you see the navy blue sky bring out the light blue and white lights shining above and give a wonderful light show for the people in the small cabin below. The cabin sits on a north country lake near a stream.

~ “While painting this scene,” says the artist, “I was transported back to the north country, with its sights and sounds, and the smell of evergreens and the memory of this bear I saw along the lakeshore as I paddled toward camp one calm summer evening.” About the Artist : To view an Al Agnew original is to be given the gift of a moment suspended in time. Wildlife artist Al Agnew captures the essence of wildlife in colors and emotions on painted canvases. Whether on safari in Kenya, Tanzania or Zimbabwe, or on a trek across the wilds of Alaska, Agnew focuses all his attention on his subjects with the intensity of a predator. The sights, the sounds, the air that is breathed are channeled from the mind’s eye to the stroke of his brush on the board.

Often, so that they cannot be easily seen, leopards will lower their noses so that they are concealed and the head shape is less obvious. I have placed the sunlit bare branches of the fig tree in front to help with the hiding. Of course, my real joy in doing this painting was to show the light glancing across the texture of the rock and to play with the forms and textures and warm colors. These, plus the tree and the leopard, speak to me of the soul of Africa. - RB

So they pause for a moment on a bare rock ridge, soaking up the warmth while catching the cool breeze off the lake."

Born in Kelowna B.C. in 1972, this young artist has an impressive collection of wildlife prints and originals. Although Rod is versatile in various mediums his preference is oil on masonite. Rod supports various community groups such as Stars, Crimestoppers, and Ducks Unlimited.
"For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed being outdoors in the wilderness. As a boy, I dearly loved to spend Saturdays and school holidays roaming the beautiful rugged countryside around the dairy farm near Kelowna, where I was raised.
As I matured I began sketching and painting what I saw in the great outdoors. The more I painted, the more I came to realize that God had given me a talent. I made up my mind to use this talent to glorify Him and the magnificent wilderness that He created. As time went on my pleasurable hobby of sketching and painting became a very meaningful daily activity.
Today, wildlife has become the prime subject in most of my paintings. When painting animals, I strive for depth creating distance so one can see past the animals. Yet I try to capture the expression of the animals' eyes.
At other times, I paint very softly, blending the animals or birds into the background; the observer must then search to find them. My personal style is determined by the subject and the different mood of each individual painting.
As I continue painting and spending more time in the awesome outdoors, I have come to realize more and more, that I love, and always will love, painting pictures of the spectacular wilderness.

Before painting hockey legend Gordie Howe, I had the chance
to get to know him. Part of what I learned is captured in
this painting. Here, echoes of the past come to life, as the
future Mr. Hockey acquires his first skate. One of his older
sisters had laid claim to the other skate, but Gordie knew that
if he was patient he would own both. Skates changed Gordie's
life. He moved from farm life, skating on the frozen sloughs
of a wintry prairie, to decades of fame in hockey arenas
across North America.Painting Gordie Howe was a great
challenge for me. It was also an opportunity to honour an
outstanding career, and pay tribute to one of professional
sports all time greatest athletes.

"This is the first time I have painted the Palomino horse, but it will not be the last!!! What a joyful experience this painting has given me! My hope is that this energy will flow outward from my easel...that this joy will be passed on.
I enjoyed every moment of the creative process with GOLDEN GLORY - from the research through sketching and composing, then creating the most supportive background almost "out of thin air" as it were. However, the most exciting experience for me as an artist was coming up with just the "right" quality of light, which actually took the most time and focus.
I did a fair amount of research on the Palomino breed and found out how tricky it can be to end up with that highly desirable "gold and silver" coloration, and how many variations are possible! When a new foal is born, what you see may or may not be what you get, for a Palomino foal is subject to changes in coat color as it matures. Will this foal turn golden like its
mother, the central horse? Or will it become more silvery like the filly on the left? Or perhaps, it will stay dark and velvety???
I have the impression that this comfortable looking golden mare has produced many fine foals - that she is a "gold-maker". She is the GOLDEN GLORY...a valuable asset...a treasure,
a gift to mankind." - Nancy Glazier

Wolves are long-legged, and, although they cannot achieve the great speeds of the big cats, they are known for their endurance. They don’t catch their larger prey with spurts of sprinting energy, instincts. They catch the weak – the slowest and sickliest – and keep the gene pool healthy. This is a scene from Canada. It was cold, and the wind was blowing the powder snow in sweeps close to the ground. I deliberately painted the wolves running into the wind. The wind-blown snow and grasses painted in the opposite direction to the wolves’ advance adds speed and dimension to the painting. Thirty Yards and Closing Fast was also painted in the looser style that I like. - Guy Coheleach

Breathtaking realism, uncompromising authenticity, attention to minute detail-these are the qualities that set Kim Norlien's paintings apart from the field. His award-winning wildlife scenes invite viewers to peacefully gaze upon wildlife in their natural state. Equally captivating are nostalgic pieces which capture the joy and simplicity of days gone by. Each Norlien painting is painstakingly researched to ensure that every detail whether it be architecture, landscape or wildlife is captured precisely as it would be found in Mother Nature's domain. Painting predominately in acrylics, Mr. Norlien complements his technical detail with skillful interplay of light and shadow. The result is subtle, yet powerful- vibrant, lifelike, compelling.

English artist Alan Hunt named himself the “zoologist who paints wildlife”; after studying zoology at Leeds College and Bristol University and art at Middlesbrough Art College.
While Hunt was working with wild animals, in parks, zoos and reserves, he painted them, and became an artist only when people began to take interest in his art. Today, his art hangs in both private and public collections and he has a large fan base not only because of his art but also because of his work raising money for environmental groups.
Hunt is now published by NWF editions and the net proceeds of his paintings go towards helping charities that deal with endangered species and environmental problems.

The talent of British artist Donald Grant was apparent from an early age. He sold his first painting when he was nine years old to his family doctor. While still a schoolboy, Grant also painted a large mural in a public building and won a national drawing and design competition in the same year.
Continuing to paint at every opportunity, Grant followed a varied career, which began with the discipline of a long apprenticeship as a shipbuilding draftsman and continued with Army service in Africa. He also worked as a technical illustrator, a graphic designer and a free-lance advertising artist.
His masterful interpretation of wildlife subjects made Grant an artist of stature respected worldwide. His paintings have been internationally exhibited and collected since 1970. His technical perfection and ability to capture the look and feel of the African wilderness and the wildlife it supports were capabilities that could only be acquired through a love of Africa, best described by his own words: "Here in this magnificent setting, which we should all do our utmost to protect, the finely balanced day-to-day drama of survival unfolds."
Grant's original paintings and limited edition prints, first published by Mill Pond Press in 1988, are infused with dramatic light and charged with atmosphere. His subjects, with poses so characteristic of the species they represent, reveal the hand of a masterful artist; one who possessed a unique understanding of and genuine concern for the earth's endangered wildlife.

Fred Buchwitz came to Canada in 1949 from his birthplace, Germany, at the young age of four. His family settled in the pristine Fraser Valley in southern British Columbia.
At the age of fourteen, Fred began to experiment with various painting mediums. At first, he worked with poster paint but this proved to be inadequate and restrictive. He eventually concluded that oil paints would best suit his needs. Being self-taught, he managed to develop his own unique style of painting that sets him apart from other artists. Fred grew up surrounded by abundant natural beauty which provided bountiful ideas for his work, ranging from the crashing waves of the West Coast to the exhilarating mountain vistas of the Rockies.
In 1972,he decided to make painting his full-time profession. Since then, Fred has traveled extensively throughout Western Canada with his work. Gaining in popularity, many of his images are being sold as limited edition prints and art cards. Fred is self-published; therefore the edition sizes are kept low, which proves to be an attractive selling feature. Recently, he caught the attention of the Bradford Exchange, which commissioned him to provide images for a collector's plate series that has been titled, " The Cabin's of Comfort River" and is being sold worldwide.
Fred currently resides in Delta, B.C. with his family, painting and publishing new images for art collector's to enjoy

A Kansas-born artist, Larry Fanning now resides in Colorado, near the Western wilderness that he loves. He says about it; "In its richly endowed land, its wildlife, and in the dreams of it's people, there pulses an energy that is sacred and life-giving."
Self-taught, Fanning has an understanding of the animals he paints; a feeling for their anatomy that shows in the natural positioning of his subjects. Color is also instinctive to him, making his subjects come to life in his art, prints and posters.
Great care is also taken to ensure the accuracy of the background in all his art, prints and posters. While Fanning draws from different experiences for his compositions, you will find that every detail is just right, you'll feel the snow stinging your face or the breeze blowing through.

The mood for “The Sentinel” comes from a memory I have of an early evening walk I took in the town of Lodge Grass on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana. It had just stopped raining. As the sun dropped below the rain clouds, it produced a golden sunset and a spectacular double rainbow. Look closely: both the brave and the earth itself wear a wolf headdress. Cementing their bond, and their responsibility to each other, is a glorious rainbow and its reflection - an image that brings “The Sentinel” full circle. - BD

Thousands of Lissa Calvert’s images grace homes in Canada and the U.S. in the form of original paintings, posters, art cards, and limited edition prints. Her original works are in corporate and private collections at home and internationally. Lissa Calvert has donated many paintings to environmental causes. She currently lives and works in Sooke B.C. on a small river estuary, rich with inspiration, and close to the forest and ocean that sustain the heart of her work. "Most of my landscapes are imaginary, and all the paintings start with a pencil sketch. If the painting is based on reality, with an animal in the composition, I use a variety of reference material for detail - photo libraries, my own reference photos, skulls, field sketches."
"The source that we spring from is Nature. In my painting, I try to portray the beauty and the mystery of this spirit, and of the seperate nations, the animals and plants, that we live with." - Lissa

" I Have had many different ideas in my head about painting that wonderful, mysterious creature, the wolf. I was pleased to hear that the wolf will be reintroduced to Yellowstone in the future. Because Yellowstone and the wolf have a special place in my heart, I got the idea to combine both in a painting. "On one of my trips to Yellowstone, I followed a coyote for a long distance and he brought me to one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen in the park. The harmony of the dry grasses and the different colored rocks, from blacks to blues, excited me. Places such as this inspire me a great deal and I am very grateful that the coyote brought me there. The coyote's colors fit well into this nice scenery, so I hope the coyote will not be jealous that I painted a wolf instead. For me, it is a wonderful experience to be able to get inspiration from such an encounter in the wilderness." - Carl Brenders.

A sense of serenity permeates the beautiful landscape images created by artist, David Daase. Precision of detail and line, expertly combined with creative use of light, colour and composition, result in works rich in character , depth and beauty. Far beyond just painting scenery, David captures the heart of nature by drawing the viewer into the place he himself envisions as he unveils small corners of God's awesome creation.
Born in Chilliwack, B.C. David grew up surrounded by scenic coastal mountains. His love of nature and the outdoors inspired him to begin drawing at quite an early age. His artistic ability became increasingly evident as he progressed through grade school, and at the age of thirteen he began painting in oils.
An accomplished musician as well, David found his time was divided. Over the years, the demand for David's work continued to increase, and art classes, which he offered for a short time, had to make way for concentrated effort on his own works.
David makes his home in the heart of B.C.'s beautiful Okanagan Valley. He currently resides in Kelowna with his wife and three daughters, where he has built his reputation as one of Western Canada's finest landscape artists. His paintings and limited edition prints can be found in private collections and galleries throughout Canada and abroad.

Darren Haley was Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year for 1999 , 2000 , 2009 and this year 2010 " Most pieces stem from a background I've viewed ," he says. " Whether it's a mountain vista , a church window or something as simple as a fence, I imagine what would be in that setting had I come at a different time." A dedicated naturalist , he acknowledges renowned artist and DUC supporter Robert Bateman as one of his major influences.

The Franklin Half Dollar (1948-1963) was replaced by the Kennedy half dollar in February 1964, due to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. This change came nine years before the design would otherwise have been eligible for a change. The Washington quarter, introduced in 1932, was intended to be a commemorative issue marking the two-hundredth anniversary of Washington’s birth. The design became so popular that it was adopted as a regular United States coin. The Liberty head dime (1916-1945) is commonly called the “Mercury” dime. The wings crowning her cap are intended to symbolized liberty of thought. The Buffalo Nickel (1913-1938) was designed to commemorate Native Americans and the American Bison. The1943 steel cent, also known as a steelie, was a variety of the U.S. one-cent coin which was struck in steel due to wartime shortages of copper.
This amazing set comes with the original -protective plastic case and is in excellent condition and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Autumn Brilliance by Paco Young ~ A rutting Bull Elk with two cows in the Pacific Northwest. The fall colors have arrived and the mating season is in full swing.
A true outdoors man of the American West, Artist Paco Young lived near the Gallatin River outside of Bozeman, MT, with his wife and young son in an environment that provides constant and ever-changing inspiration for his art. He remained passionate about each painting because he paints familiar subjects that he loves. Young's favorite way in which to work is painting in plain air, or outdoors on location. This technique has also has taught him the most about painting. Young's subjects are almost entirely derived from trips to nearby Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier National Parks. He says, "There's an endless source of inspiring subject matter in the Northern Rockies. While I may include wildlife or figures in my paintings, they are usually secondary or lend support to the landscape. My paintings are often more about paint itself than the subject depicted because I find so much pleasure and excitement in the simple process of moving paint and creating a real impression of life." Reflecting a level of maturity that comes from years of passionate work and dedication, Young's paintings have evolved into a painterly style well-suited to convey the wild beauty of his surroundings. During a career that spans more than 20 years, Young has traveled extensively and exhibited at hundreds of gallery and museum shows including the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, C.M. Russell Museum, Gilcrease Museum and the Trailside Galleries. The National Park Service commissioned him to do a painting of Old Faithful, the famous geyser in Yellowstone National Park. Young's 4' x 6' original Autumn Brilliance oil has now been permanently installed over the grand fireplace at the historic Old Faithful Inn.

Rocky Mountain Meadow by Nancy Glazier ~ Rocky Mountain Meadow may well be Glazier’s finest elk painting to date. For years, Nancy has struggled with how to paint frost on an elk’s coat. It has been one of the few frustrations she faces with elk paintings. She was
terribly excited when she stepped back from this piece to find that she had finally succeeded in creating frost on their coats in shaded spots and melted frost on the areas that are in the sunlight. In addition, she included nine elk
in the painting – each one different from the rest, each with its own, unique personality!

James Meger taught art
from 1973-1979. In 1979, he resigned from teaching. His first limited edition
print "Wildside" was released and quickly sold out. It was also announced in
December of 1979 that he had won the 1980 Minnesota Duck Stamp
print.
Today, Meger feels that his previous education, which included
three years of pre-med, as well as hunting experience, has educated him for the
muscular and skeletal structure needed to paint his realistic depictions of
wildlife. Meger wants to tell a story with each of his paintings. Some of his
paintings have taken up to five months to create. Since 1982, he has included
hidden elements in his paintings. The curious and keen observers seek out the
hidden images. From this, Meger has been known as the artist who paints "More
than Meets the Eye."

Rod Tribiger
Born in Kelowna, British Columbia in 1972, Rod Tribiger’s early love of nature sparked an interest in spending much time in the wilderness. As the years passed, his desire to paint what he saw became more and more evident. The subject of wildlife caught his attention and as a result, birds and mammals became the focal point of his artwork. Over the years, Rod’s artistic techniques underwent constant changes and he soon realized that he is blessed with a very specific talent. In 1990, Rod had the opportunity to work in an art gallery as a picture framer and it was during this time that his artwork made its first appearance in the public eye. Demand for original oil paintings soon began to grow and 1992 brought the publication of Rod’s first limited edition print. Painting became his full time profession and in 1996, one of his pieces was chosen to be a part of the annual Ducks Unlimited print package. Although recognition and demand for his artwork has brought Rod a sense of satisfaction, the ultimate reward has been the opportunity to share images of God’s creation with others. The Okanagan Valley, which never ceases to give its beauty, is still home to both Rod and his wife. To paint the wonderful creations of God is one of his deepest desires. To realize Him as the awesome Creator through the images of His creation is Rod’s hope for his audience.

The fabulous fifties burst into America bringing a period of history that left a multitude of memories of a special time. Bikes were envied, and soured up cars were to be reckoned with while cruising down town on Saturday night. Pony tailed girls in their poddle skirts and boys in their rolled up blue jeans were the style. James Dean was hot at the movies. Burgers, fries, and Cherry Coke were the food of choice, while we twisted and bopped to the sounds of rock and roll. I hope I have painted a portrait for each of you who lived in this era and helped to create a moment of this "American Classic".

Mayer’s Master of the North was selected to join Ducks Unlimited Canada’s. (DUC) 2012 National Art Portfolio and Mayer was named DUC’s Artist of the Year. The money raised through this program supports DUC’s on-the-ground wetland conservation work, scientific research and education programs.
The hypnotic eyes of the wolf pierce the silent, wintry landscape as the beautiful animal remains vigilant Maybe this consummate hunter is watching its prey or enjoying a quiet respite from the pack.
Canadian artist Denis Mayer Jr. has earned international acclaim for his unique style of wildlife painting that offers not only remarkably realistic representations but also images infused with energy, vitality and warmth
.
A native of Québec City, Denis knew from childhood that he would be an artist. He initially worked with his father, a commercial sign painter. This training served as a foundation as he privately explored drawing in charcoal, bringing his talent for capturing detail to depictions of both still lifes and built structures. He then worked for many years creating accurate and appealing architectural renderings as well as commercial illustrations for advertising.
A dedicated conservationist and member of the international organization, Artists for Conservation, Denis has contributed to fundraising for organizations that include World Wildlife Federation Canada, Québec Wildlife Federation, and the Art of Nature. His work was selected for the Art Portfolio through Ducks Unlimited in 2007-2009.
Denis lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with his wife and three children and loves to walk the area's woodland trails with his kids. He also listens to both live and recorded music and is passionate about Italian opera which he plays while he is working.
Having achieved success as a master illustrator, Denis looked for and found his greatest challenge and passion - wildlife painting. Inspired by the work of Belgian naturalist and artist Carl Brenders, Denis now works exclusively as a wildlife artist, using mixed media and limited colours that reflect what he sees as the natural palette.
