With the eruption of Spindletop on January 10, 1901, the face of Texas was forever changed. Land where cattle once roamed freely gave way to wildcatters and oil derricks. This new industry dramatically changed the lives of Texas cowhands. Some stayed on and enjoyed the new era of Black Gold. Others chose to move away rather than submit to this different kind of lease. - GH

This painting was inspired by a trip to Colorado during the winter of 2007. Driving on snowy highways can be treacherous; but riding horseback through the rough country in the Rockies, is a lot more difficult and dangerous. And often, the cold is extreme with no relief from a bright sun. The cowboy life may be romantic, but dealing with the worst nature has to offer on a regular basis takes a special man, and a special horse. And a lot of luck - GH

In "The American West", G. Harvey captures the strength of the age old Sierra Nevada mountains as well as the endurance of two lone cowboys after a long trip through the rugged, unspoiled lands of early America. For a cowboy, pack trips through the mountains always meant long day, cool nights and a rushing mountain stream to welcome him once he reached the pass.

At one time, the grand opening of hotels in major cities were affairs to remember. Such was the case in the late 1800's when the Capitol Hotel (now Rice Hotel) opened in downtown Houston.
The hotel's magnificent architecture and lavishly appointed interior attracted people from surrounding towns to the gala celebration. In the years to follow, dignitaries, and businessmen as well as heads of state came to Houston and stayed at this notable Southwest landmark.

G. Harvey feels that the general store was truly a mainstay of the old west " like so many of the fading images of the American West, the general store was the place where the entire community gathered" said the artist. " The general store was the post office, gas station, and feed store all in one.... It was a place to see old friends, purchase the necessities of life and gather mail for the boss."

G. Harvey grew up in the rugged hills north of San Antonio, Texas. His grandfather was a trail boss at 18 and helped create an American legend. So the American West is not only the artist’s passion but his birthright. Harvey and his wife still live near the hill country of Texas. Harvey’s early interest in sketching and drawing slowly evolved into a passion for painting in oils. He abandoned the security of a full-time job in 1963 and threw his total energy into a fine art career. The year 1965 brought acclaim for Harvey’s first prestigious show. He was then awarded American Artists’ Professional League’s New Master’s Award.

Harvey paints the spirit of America from its western hills and prairies to the commerce of its great cities. The Smithsonian Institution honored Harvey by selecting him for a one-man show. He has been the recipient of innumerable awards and the subject of three books. Through his art, our history lives.

In When Cowboys Don't Change, G. Harvey captures the mood and magic of
west Texas, as a trio of traditional cowboys pass through the twentieth century
bustle of the Spindletop oil boom...It's the legacy of Texas, the dramatic story
of oil fields and ranch hands side by side, brought to life by the artistic genius of
G. Harvey. His commitment to historical accuracy and his ability to faithfully
create moments in time have placed G. Harvey at the forefront of contemporary
American artists.
Beginning in 2016, G. Harvey has chosen to curtail the release of further print editions. While he will continue to devote his time to the creative process of his studio,. The result of this will be an increase in collectability and value of past prints.

Missouri artist Andy Thomas enjoys painting a wide variety of subject matter. History and nostalgia are two of his favorites that combine in this oil field scene from a century ago. Boom towns sprang up over night attracting hundreds in search of Black Gold. This particular painting is a study in light and shadow as the foreground in shadow contrasts beautifully with the wooden derricks in the sunlight

Hand Pulled Limited Edition Serigraph on Paper.

2 available - New mint condition with documentation.

Serigraphy utilizes the silk-screen printing process. For each desired color, a stencil is created indicating w the color will be applied. Then the stencil is add to a silk or nylon mesh screen, and paint of that color is forced through the screen on to the paper. This process creates a luxurious, vibrant and often-textured image.

A serigraph requires a separate silkscreen for each color of the image. Quality silk screen edition prints contain 50 to 100 seperate screens. During the printing process it is usually a day between applying colors to allow for drying time. A print with 75 color screens would take 75 days. The process is lengthy when quality is desired.

"Callin' the Blue" features eight Republican Presidents from the past hundred and fifty years gathered around for a game of pool and some good laughs.
Our Presidents have a uniquely solitary job. They surround themselves with the strength and wisdom of talented and experienced people, but as Harry Truman once said, “The buck stops here.” We can hardly imagine the weight of decisions they must bear. Perhaps that is why we are so familiar with the before and after photographs depicting the accelerated ageing process while in office. These leaders deserve some time to relax and unwind. Some of the greatest times anyone can enjoy are when we can let our guard down because we are among those who have been where we have been: people who know the truth and don’t make harsh judgments. We can have a great time with each other especially after the challenge has been met and the heat is off. We can talk, commiserate and just be ourselves. Who do former presidents hang out with? Wouldn’t it be just a great time if they could “let their hair down” together and just have a time to laugh and remember? Can you imagine that? Well, here they are: “Callin' the Blue” Republicans ,George W Bush, George HW Bush,  Gerald R. Ford, Dwight D. Eisenhower, The Great Ronald Reagan, Richard M. Nixon, Teddy Roosevelt, Abe Lincoln.

Gennusa's favorite subject has to be longhorns - especially pintos. Their markings are remarkable and each is unique. The title is a double entendre as the creek in the painting is Pinto Creek. These two are prime specimens of this Texas favorite. Perhaps Gennusa's years as a Texas Longhorn might possibly influence him.

Reminiscent of the cattle drives of old, Ragan Gennusa depicts this herd of Texas Longhorns moving through the brush of the Texas Hill country on their way to another place in his imagination.

Texas artist Ragan Gennusa is well known for his longhorn paintings. His use of light and his ability to capture both longhorns and horses accurately and also beautifully, make his work unique. Cattle drives and stampedes capture his fancy as they allow him to feature his subjects in action.

"In addition to its many other enduring characteristics, the West has served as a historical benchmark by which America's ever changing nature has been chartered. The West saw an untamedfrontier become a settled land by pioneers seeking a stake for themselves. It saw the cattle industry transform a modest existence into a burgeoning one. Later it saw black gold from its belly turn pupers into millionaires and-and change the course of the world. Not just once, but throughout history, America's West has been host to many a "Boom Town"

The land and the rhythm of the seasons were forces that governed the mountain men's cycle of life .

"One Whit the land" is that moment, high in the Absaroka Mountains when the trapper paused and looked out over the mountain meadows, rich with aspen and willow, lonely creeks and streams, and he knew there would be a plentiful harvest of beaver.

In his book, 'No More Buffalo', Bob Scriver tells with a fictional story how the Blackfeet described the first horse that they saw. Some said it looked like the elk, being about the same size and color, and others had seen it in distant Indian camps being used to pull the travois - like the dogs that were used by the Blackfeet. So, according to the story, they called them “Ponokah-Eemetah” in their language, which translates to Elk-Dog in English.

To quote from Bob Scriver, 'After the horse was obtained and its many uses became apparent, a whole new way of life evolved which came to be known as the Horse Culture. Acquisition of the horse helped make the Plains Indians into the freest people the world has ever known. They became mobile in war; their garments, their dwellings and their food were more easily obtained; their personal belongings and their religious bundles became much more expansive. In the opinion of many, mankind reached its zenith with the combination of the Plains Indian and the horse. Having little or no government, they lived the rich, free, unfettered life so many modern people yearn for.

I have tried in this work to celebrate the freedom and excitement of “Running with the Elk-Dogs.” - MG

Although she liked to draw and her father was an award winning artist/illustrator, Susan Terpning chose Anthropology rather than Art as her major filed of study. Her entire she had shared her father’s interest in natural history and native cultures and was especially drawn to the culture of the Native American. As a child she made war bonnets and did beadwork and always played the part of the Indian in games with her brother.

Her early sketches were of Indians and horses. Whe Susan graduated from college with an Anthropology degree but couldn’t find a job close to her home her father encouraged her to try painting professionally. That was 20 years ago. Her natural artistic talent combined with her passion for native culture quickly earned her a reputation as an exceptional artist

The Native Americans had a multitude of ways to communicate with other members of their tribes. The Cherokee would bend a small sapling nearly to the ground, using the now-crooked tree to indicate a direction. Some of these crooked trees can still be seen today. Other trail-marking methods included piling stones or branches to create what are known today as cairns. If a trail was devoid of natural debris, a traveler might leave a personal item along the trail to attract attention and direct those who would follow. The horseman in this scene has found the marker left by his predecessor, confirming that he is on the right track. - HT

“Some years ago, while riding horseback in the Bitterroot Range with a friend, we came upon this interesting maze of rocks and fallen timbers high up in the mountains,” says Terpning regarding the inspiration for "Camp at Cougar’s Den." “Upon close examination we could detect the smell of a cougar in the small cave-like enclosure. The whole scene took on an even more primitive and wild nature, and I knew that this den could be the setting for a story. I realized a camp scene would be a logical choice, with Blackfoot raiders out to create some mischief and stopped for the night before traveling on.”

Howard Terpning’s devotion and respect for his subject matter, extraordinary palette and brushstroke, and the ability to evoke emotion have made him the most lauded painter of Western art. "Camp at Cougar’s Den" was recipient of a pair of awards at the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the Museum of the American West (formerly the Autry Museum of Western Heritage): The Thomas Moran Memorial Award for Painting for Exceptional Artistic Merit and The Patron’s Award for Work Most Popular with the Patrons of the Exhibition and Sale.

As a boy, Terry Redlin listened in awe as his father carefully planned hunting and fishing trips. He was too young to participate, but never forgot the excitement and wonder of those special times. The homemade camper top on the old pick up is a forerunner of the modern versions. The four deer are secretly watching the activities. Only in the morning will tracks reveal their presence. The man launching the wooden canoe occasionally dipped as we detect from the Copenhagen can vaguely outlined in his rear pocket. And the group's tall storyteller relaxes in a folding chair, hands extended, to recall the big one that got away. As the misty smoke rises to greet the moon we, too, can share in Terry Redlin's unique vision of man's romantic encounter with life in the wild in his fine art print Campfire Tales

Edwin Tuts' keen attention to detail and his quest for perfection have made it possible for this self-taught artist to pursue a successful career in fine art.

Tuts was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1969. At an early age, he displayed an artistic talent that was encouraged by his parents throughout his childhood. For hours at a time, he would watch his artist mother as she painted. After moving to Edmonton, Alberta, with its majestic mountains and beautiful lake shores, his youthful love and respect for nature intensified.

As he began to paint the natural world, it all connected for him. "I get inspired by nature because I see the beauty of God in all of it," he explains. "Painting also inspires me because my real inspiration comes from God." Over the years, he further developed his gifts as an artist, painting a variety of subjects including wildlife, figures, family portraits, landscapes and inspirational scenes. He studied the works of great artists from the Renaissance to the modern period.

Influenced by his favorite artists, including Albert Bierstadt, Frederick Edwin Church and Leonardo daVinci, Tuts experimented with different mediums, techniques and styles before finding his niche. By 1992, he began selling his originals to collectors, and in 1995, Tuts won the Alberta Duck Stamp competition for Ducks Unlimited.

Soft-spoken and down-to-earth, his serious nature is balanced by his sense of humor. Through his continued support of many worthy causes and his love of painting, Tuts hopes to inspire others by making the world a brighter and more colorful place to live. His work has garnered several awards and numerous honors and is included in many private and corporate collections worldwide

A sense of serenity permeates the beautiful landscape images created by artist, David Daase. Precision of detail and line, expertly combined with creative use of light, color and composition, result in works rich in character , depth and beauty. Far beyond just painting scenery, David captures the heart of nature by drawing the viewer into the place he himself envisions as he unveils small corners of God's awesome creation.

Born in Chilliwack, B.C. David grew up surrounded by scenic coastal mountains. His love of nature and the outdoors inspired him to begin drawing at quite an early age. His artistic ability became increasingly evident as he progressed through grade school, and at the age of thirteen he began painting in oils.

An accomplished musician as well, David found his time was divided. Over the years, the demand for David's work continued to increase, and art classes, which he offered for a short time, had to make way for concentrated effort on his own works.

David makes his home in the heart of B.C.'s beautiful Okanagan Valley. He currently resides in Kelowna with his wife and three daughters, where he has built his reputation as one of Western Canada's finest landscape artists. His paintings and limited edition prints can be found in private collections and galleries throughout Canada and abroad.

This composition is of two Indians embracing one another and making a bond between the two of them. The colors used in Sacred Bond by Lee Bogle are beautiful; as you see the flow of pink yellow and blue swirl around the two Indians to create the background while the tan hues of the blanket and their headdress compliment the tan of their skin. The variety of brush strokes used in this piece of work gives the artist audience a scene of bonding with a loved one and how important and sentimental it can truly be
