Airbrush Artistry
Ray Bindr is a visual artist specializing in airbrush art; a paint technique commonly associated with commercial or media arts. Using a hand-held tool that distributes liquid and powder material by air pressure, airbrushing has become a respected artistic medium, in the same vein as acrylics, pastels, and pen and ink.
Like many airbrush artists, Bindr has produced work on flat as well as multi-dimensional surfaces. A commercial artist for over 35 years, he painted billboards for national signage companies while also specializing in custom mural work, primarily in the automotive industry. With the advent of digital printing opportunities for airbrush artists have diminished in the commercial sector, but have intensified in the thriving field of creative arts.
Despite having worked on such a large scale as a commercial artist, Bindr developed an ability to produce and control a fine clean airbrush line. His aesthetic for realistic, rather than illusionary lines, remains unparalleled in the industry: "I wanted my work to be of a high quality, whether it was being viewed from two feet or ten feet away," he explains. "I seem to have a natural ability to view an image and then recreate it in my work." As a result, many of his art prints are commonly mistaken for photographs.
To ensure that the clarity of his lines are well preserved in the reproduction process, he continues to create his original artwork on a slightly exaggerated scale. Instead of enlarging the image for reproduction, therefore, his images are reduced. Moreover, he limits production to between three and six hundred prints, all signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Whether his subject matter is wildlife, magical realism or automotive, Bindr's artwork is highly collectable, appealing to a broad range of interests. From the monochromatic tones of Barely Visible and Stripes; to the electric colours of Sorcerer's Secret and Play Fight; the extraordinary light quality in 100 Years; and the drama and excitement of 57 Fuelie and 69 Camaro, Ray Bindr's work is superb. All prints are double matted and suitably framed for immediate display.
