This painting was inspired by a trip to Colorado during the winter of 2007. Driving on snowy highways can be treacherous; but riding horseback through the rough country in the Rockies, is a lot more difficult and dangerous. And often, the cold is extreme with no relief from a bright sun. The cowboy life may be romantic, but dealing with the worst nature has to offer on a regular basis takes a special man, and a special horse. And a lot of luck - GH

Gerald Harvey Jones, known professionally as G. Harvey, died Nov. 13 at age 84. In his time, Jones was among the most famous artists in Austin. He painted popular Western scenes, but also urban streets capes set at the turn of the past century. His work was apologetically nostalgic, casting a golden glow on views of an Americana that already were fading before his birth in 1933 in San Antonio.

G. Harvey’s work reminds us that the world has changed very much and very little; country lanes and city streets are still romantic. It is, after all, from living in the present that the artist draws inspiration for the past.

We're deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Gerald Harvey Jones (1933-2017). Our thoughts & prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
